Jean Ann Simmons-Rice

Jean Ann Simmons-Rice was born October 1, 1946 to the late Clarence Brunson and Elizabeth Webb-Brunson. She transitioned into eternal rest on June 3, 2018. Jean was the oldest of four children and a graduate of Central Commercial High School in New York, New York. Jean married her soulmate William Rice and remained a faithful wife until her passing. As the “Matriarch” of the family, Jean committed to making everyone feel uniquely loved and adored. Jean spent most of her professional career as an Office Manager in the Publishing filed. After retirement, Jean and William migrated from New York to Hampton, Virginia, where Jean made a conscious effort to ensure the family remained connected in spite of the distance. Jean’s commitment to her family, friends and community were evident in her public service and advocacy. Jean often filled in the gap helping with community activities, single parents, and neighborhood schools. She was affectionately called “Momma Jean” by many. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, William of Hampton, Virginia; two sisters, Cynthia of Powder Springs, Georgia, Hassanah (Bashir) of New York, New York; her aunt, Sandra of Orlando, Florida; sons, William (Janice) of Staten Island, New York and Derrick (Nicole) of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; daughter, Nicole of Bronx, New York; her loving and faithful dog, Coffee; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Pamela of Virginia Beach, Francine of Virginia Beach, and Brenda of Chesapeake.
