John was employed with Virginia Landscapes & Morris Lawn Maintenance. He was a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving as Crew Chief for the F-15 during Desert Storm. During his military career he earned the Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
He was preceded in rest by his step-son, Dustin Ricker. He is survived by his domestic partner of 21 years, Tammy Ricker; daughter, Katie McMasters; mother, Donna Fullen; step-daughter, Angela Ricker; brother, Robert McMasters; two sisters, Laurie Nickles and Amy Wise; and aunt, Betty Wood.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 25, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
