

John William Samuelson, a 35 year resident of Poquoson, Virginia, died at his home in Simms, Texas on Thursday, December 22, 2011. Originally from Spicer, Minnesota, the son of the late Carl and Mabel Samuelson, was born February 18, 1929.
John, known by many as Sam, enlisted in the United States Air Force at the early age of 17 and rose to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant during his twenty year career while being stationed at bases located in Guam, Greenland, Alaska, New Mexico, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Dakota and his final and favorite tour of duty at Albrooke AFB in the Panama Canal Zone where he was the NCOIC of the U. S. Air Forces Southern Command’s Directorate of Communications and Electronics.
Sam was an avid camper, hunter and fisherman enjoying many a day fishing, crabbing or digging for clams and oysters in and around the York River and Chesapeake Bay. He was also a very successful and accomplished gardener.
Mr. Samuelson was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Doris Wynne Samuelson, his parents Carl and Mabel Samuelson, and his brother Carlyle Samuelson. He is survived by his sons John William Samuelson, Jr. and his wife Dawn of Simms, Texas; Wynne Lee Samuelson and his wife, Nancy, of Canfield, Ohio, and Robert Lewis Wynne and his wife Susan of Marysville, Calif.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his sister, Elaine Thompson of Crystal, Minnesota.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. Following the visitation, a celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens, 1551 Butler Farm Road, Hampton.
