Obituary of Lester Muryl Sapp
Lester M. Sapp left us peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2020. Lester was born on June 22, 1945 in Richmond, Virginia, son of Lester Sapp and Cynthia Cox. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Maria Sapp; children, Jennifer (David), Stephanie (Michael), and Bryan; grandchildren, Oliver and Liliana. We have all lost one of the most caring and loving men in this world, fighting until the end and yet still worried endlessly for those around him. For his immediate family he was a doting husband who found a valued place in his family both here in Virginia and across the ocean in Spain. And then for so many others: a southern gentleman, a laid-back and relatable teacher, a Richmond boy who loved fishing and made a hell of a crab cake, and a guy who always shared his hobbies and time with anyone willing. Lester’s big personality wasn’t without warmth and sincerity to every friendly face around him. You can’t go many places in Hampton without meeting someone whose life had an impact by Lester. He spent a lifetime, 40+ years as a teacher and coach, helping young people realize their own potential and find their own way in life. Not a day went by when someone wouldn’t stop and holler ‘hey Coach Sapp! Remember me? You were the best teacher ever!’ But the lives he impacted most were his family’s, and losing him will leave a space greater than anything else in their lives. His memory will remain, as well as his love for his family, his precious puppy. Let us always celebrate ‘Sappy’ and live with great love as he did. Thank you for sharing any memories or words about him. Services will be private.
