She was born in Clarkton, North Carolina on August 17, 1930. Mom lived most of her life in Norfolk, Virginia until she made the decision to move closer to her “two girls”. Mom had the perfect spot “The Boonies”, a place she loved in Gloucester, Virginia. It was there she continued to live independently and happily spent the remainder of her years. What a blessing!
Maggie was predeceased by her husband Fred; father Charlie Lilley; mother Fanny Eure Lewis, and son-in-law Sal Bavuso. She was the baby of 5 siblings who all predeceased her, Marie Cholewinski, Charles Lilley, Evelyn Black, Mary Sagraves, Doris Perkins and Margie Bachman, sister of her heart.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters Carolyn S. Grimes (Al) and Margo S. Bavuso. Granny Girl also leaves behind grandchildren Al Grimes III (Mary Beth), Andy Grimes (Mary Beth), Torry Bavuso (Katie), Anthony Bavuso (Elyse) and Jennifer Seidl, along with nine great grandchildren Will Grimes, Barrett Caden Grimes, Mason Grimes, Matthew Bavuso, Jacob Bavuso, Elianna Bavuso, Em Bavuso, Connor Bavuso and Wyatt Seidl (Eric, Wyatt’s Dad). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Maggie was the “other mother” to some very special folks in her life, Tommy Cholewinski, Millie Hanson, Chuck Murff, Wesley Spear, Willy Davenport, and Steve Bain.
Maggie found her niche in personnel management when she went to work for Leggett Department Stores at Military Circle. She went on to become the group personnel manager for the Tidewater stores, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Lynnhaven, where she formed many close friendships.
Maggie was very instrumental in helping Margo and Sal start The Little Log Cabin Child Care Center in Yorktown, Virginia. For many years she worked along side Margo. The children and staff loved Miss Maggie and there are many great memories of her and her dog, My Girl at Little Log Cabin.
One of Maggie’s greatest God given gifts, was taking care of others. She was the linchpin of her family and her home, a home that was a haven for many.
