Marie was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was a resident of Virginia for 60 years. Marie graduated from Anchorage High School in Anchorage, Alaska and then went on to earn her Cosmetology license.
Marie met the love of her life, Walter Stallings, in May of 1964 and they married four months later in September. Marie worked as a Beautician for a few years until she and Walter began their family. At that time, she took on the most important job of her life, being a mother.
Marie was a member of Northampton Christian Church. The Lord was her Rock and Salvation. She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. She was thankful for all the prayers, calls, cards, and meals during her sickness over the years from family, friends and her church family. Marie was a shining light to many. She always saw the good in everyone. Through the years of her illness, she never complained and would always say there is someone out there much worse than I.
Marie was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Centrella; her father, James DeLorie, Jr.; her brothers, William McLeod, Donald McLeod, and Lawrence McLeod; and her grandson, Phillip Stallings, Jr. Marie is survived by the love of her life and devoted husband of 58 years, Walter H. Stallings; her sons, Phillip Stallings (Glenna), Michael Stallings (Tammy); grandchildren, Joshua Stallings, Michael Fauntleroy, Jr. (Rachel), and Deni Roach; great-grand children, Chloe Stallings, Marley Fauntleroy, and Remington Roach; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 8:45am to 9:45am on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a celebration of Marie’s life to begin at 9:45am, officiated by Minister David Jones. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Virginia 23606. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.
Serving as pallbearers are Michael Fauntleroy, Jr., Jay Stallings, David Stallings, Derek Stokes, Chris Hosman, Greg VanBuskirk, Joshua Stallings and Nzau Paku.
