Mary Stoney

Mary Stoney, age 90, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, at her home. A native of Yemesse, South Carolina she had been a resident of Yorktown, Virginia since 1988. Prior to relocating to Yorktown she was a longtime resident of Long Island New York where she raised her family.

As a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was devoted to building a loving family based on legacy values and strong spiritual beliefs.

Preceding her in rest was her husband, Abraham Stoney; children, Elijah Brown, Mack Louis Brown, Abraham Francis Stoney, Luther Marvin Stoney, Freddie McGriff, Elliot Rufus Stoney, and Carrie Lee Barnes; parents, Jo Anna Brown and Sunday Washington; twin sister, Martha Brown; sisters, Louise James and Frances Washington; brother, Buster Brown. Surviving members of her family include her children, Ida Nell Abraham of Savannah, GA, Anthoney Ezekiel Stoney and wife Gwendolyn of Newport News, Harold Louis Stoney and wife Linda of Yorktown; daughter-in-law, Sonja Stoney of Norfolk VA; grandchildren, Anthony, Shaqueena, Levar, Marvis, Nhandi, Leon, Leah, Devon, Anthoney II, Gene, Christopher, Germaine, Mark, Abraham, Lynn, Noland, Michael and Deirdre; and a host of great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family thanks Sentara Hospice Service and the many loving caregivers who have supported and assisted Mary over the years.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held Thursday, May 29, at 11 am at Ebenezer Baptist Church, of Hampton, VA. Interment will be in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6350 Center Dr., Ste. 102, Norfolk, Virginia, 23502.
