I first met Nelson when we were both Fire Control Technicians in the Coast Guard at Training Center Yorktown in 2002. 

Eventually Nelson and I both transferred out of Yorktown but stayed in touch.  In 2010, I was back with Nelson at C3CEN, where he was now a civilian working in DGPS as a contractor and then GS position. He had remarried, had five kids and managed to put himself through ECPI to obtain a degree in electronics. 

We quickly started playing games together again. Nelson managed to quickly establish himself as a SME in multiple areas, especially in contracting, successfully applying his technical background at the same time.  

Nelson was the person I talked to when I was struggling outside of work with personal problems. We playing games online to release stress, have fun, talk about computers, movies, and life in general. Over the next 15 years or so, Nelson became my closest friend. 

He REALLY loved the work he did and genuinely loved to help others get contracts in place. He worked tirelessly to make things more efficient at work. He often said was dedicated to that young kid on the small boat or cutter at sea, just trying to do their job and he wanted them to have equipment that worked and was supported by logistics. 

I will always remember his quick wit, his laugh and his dedication to his wife and kids. He had a great laugh! I will miss my gaming buddy, co-worker and friend.  I didn't quite realize how much of my life involved your presence until it was gone. Every time I log in to work, decide to play one of our favorite games or want to tell someone about that new thing.  Those are the daily reminders. Good bye my friend!

Nelson was the battle caller for our clan in World of Warships. Nelson had the natural ability to quickly develop a strategy and give clear directions.  Hearing his laugh and yell of victory is always a great memory.

Nelson, our co-workers and I played Eve-Online together. Nelson played Eve-Online, off and on for over 8 years. His first character was Skyknight. You can find his name on the monument in Reykjavik, Iceland.  We spend many hours in game and out of game strategizing tactics, making friends worldwide, and participating in some of the largest battles in gaming history.

Nelson and I worked closely together for two years on a large contract that he began sponsoring years prior.  The contract was his baby, and he knew the requirements inside-and-out.  I appreciated how Nelson always looked to do things the right way, and that he always had the CG's best interests at heart.  I found Nelson to be hard working, dedicated, knowledgeable and always willing to help; Traits that are in short supply these days, but that stand the test of time.   I will miss Nelson for the professional he always was, and my heart is broken for his family.  Please know that Nelson was one of the best of us, and he will be missed.

I’m sorry for your loss. I was on the Bear with him. He was one of my favorite people to talk to. I was a Storekeeper which meant he would have to come to me for ordering supplies or grabbing something out of storage. I’m originally from Virginia and had never met anyone from New York before. He was always so kind to everyone. Rest easy buddy

Dearest Loffredo Family,
While I only worked with Nelson for three years, I spoke with him almost every week while working on ITARs.  His vast knowledge made him invaluable he will be sorely missed.  I loved his laugh and his lighthearted comments about the ITARs.

I am remembering Nelson and his family in my prayers.
