Nora Jane was born in Norfolk to the late Relmond Alvin Hodges and Inez Copperthite Hodges. She was a graduate of Maury High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
She was a loving mother who lived a life filled with laughter, a wonderful sense of humor, a song in her heart, and unwavering manners. She reveled in practical jokes. She traveled the United States with her husband for seven years in their motor home. She loved her trips to the casinos, visiting with lifelong friends, and meeting friends to be, playing golf, fishing and boating.
While her husband served overseas, she was home with her girls. Nora Jane was honored to be a member of the Tidewater Tidal WAVES, Women of the Sea Services, Unit #152. She was a member of the Virginia Beach Sand Witches, a women’s fishing club, and the Hill and Dale Garden Club. She was known for her devotion to the Girl Scouts, where she touched many girls’ lives from California to North Carolina and Virginia Beach. She was asked to volunteer at the Cousteau Society in Norfolk, where she volunteered for several years.
Nora Jane was preceded in rest by her husband of 56 years, Monroe Walter Johnson. She is survived by four daughters, Janey Wooliever, Betty Nath, Sue Mathes and her husband, Dave, Cathy Johnson and her wife, Kris; eight grandchildren, Andy, Jason, Bree, Brian, Christy, Kelly, Hillary and Hunter; ten great-grandchildren, Trevor, Rachel, Logan, Josh, Grace, Jonathan, Piper, Noah, Alaina, Tenley; and two brothers, Relmond Hodges and Tommy Hodges.
