

Phillip was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 23, 1935 to Commander Philip P. Lucy and Lois Hilton Lucy. After graduating from Maury High School, he went on to proudly serve four years in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now known as Virginia Tech), where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1961. In 1962, he relocated to Hampton, Virginia to start his career with the Newport News Shipyard. On March 1, 2000 he retired there after 38 years of service. He had a love of trains, planes, roses, photography, computers, classical music, genealogy, and all his family and friends.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann; and his brothers, William and James. He is survived by his wife, Shirley B. Lucy; daughter Mary McAnally (Jim), son, Charles Phillip Lucy; grandsons, David Hilton Lucy and Craig Phillip Lucy (Ashley); sister, Lucinda Lucy Jones (Wiley); brothers, Melvin H. Lucy and Robert S. Lucy; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Phil got a second chance at life in 1995 with a life saving surgery by the talented Dr. Gary L. Schecter, for an insidious squamous cell skin cancer. He was fortunate and blessed to receive wonderful and compassionate medical care in recent years by Dr. Eugene Link and his nurses, Lynn and Madi, Dr. Matthew Bak, Dr. Ursula Klostermyer, Dr. Allen Thornton, Dr. Kian Kaz and Dr. Michael Miller.
