Richard Eugene Hinkle

Richard E. Hinkle, 78, passed away June 21, 2012 at Kindred Hospital, Richmond, while recovering from heart surgery. Born in Newport News, Rick was a lifetime resident of Virginia, most recently enjoying retirement in Waverly. Rick was a 30 year veteran of the US Navy, retiring in 1986 at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After his naval career he worked with the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active member of many service organizations. Rick was an avid sportsman enjoying both hunting and fishing. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Hulda Mae (Johnstone) Hinkle, his brother, and his beloved wife Beatrice (Whalen) Hinkle, formerly of Montreal, Canada. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews in Canada and his many friends in Virginia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, followed by a service at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on Sept. 5, 2012 at 3:00 pm, with family and close friends in attendance.
