Robert Burns Gibson, Jr.

After a career spanning 23 years, Robert retired in 1997 from the X43MI Dept. of the Newport News Ship Yard. He was an Air Force veteran and served from 1956 -1960. Roller skating was a hobby of his along with shooting pool, motorcycling, and enjoying Ford Mustangs, especially his 2002.

Preceding him in rest are his parents, Ruth and Robert B. Gibson, Sr.; brothers, David and Jimmy Gibson; and his canine companions, Sheppard and Dakota. Surviving members of his family include his wife of 59 years, Joy Gibson; sons, Robert B. Gibson III and wife Lisa, and Jay Gibson and wife Nancy; grandchildren, Chasity Gibson, Robert B. Gibson IV, Taylor Gibson, Hunter Gibson and wife Amber, and Michael Gibson; great grandchildren, Jaden Gibson, Jada Chatman, and Jasmine Womack; and faithful canine companion, Bleu.

The family will receive friends 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Memorial Park. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 17 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
