As a young woman in New Hampshire, Sara was active in many pastimes, including her local 4H club, barrel racing, and playing clarinet in the marching band. She was also the first woman from her town to volunteer as a Field Medic in the Air Force, through which she served four years in Okinawa, Japan. After the military, she managed the Langley Speedway Mobile Home Park, while also managing a home and family. She then went to work at the Strip and Finish Shop, before moving on to the Langley Medical Center, where she handled medical records. Later, she became the Health Benefits Advisor for the Post, where she stayed until her eventual retirement.
The Church was an essential part of Sara’s life, specifically Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hampton, VA where she met and married her late husband, John Hardy, and participated in the choir. She remained an avid horsewoman and John introduced her to sailing. She was proud of all her children: Chris Hardy (Laura), Geoff Hardy (Sarah), Greg Hardy (Tiffany), Rob Van Aman (Aly), Jessica Hardy (Nick) and Brent Van Aman; and loved her grandchildren: Jordan, Kayleigh, Tristan, Allison, Ryan, Evan, Emma, Courtney, Victoria, Zach, Sebastian, Lilian, Olivia and Madilynn.
Sara Hardy will be laid to rest next to her husband, John Hardy, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11: 00 a.m. Address of the church is as follows: 179 E. Mercury Blvd, Hampton, VA 23669. Masks are required by the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either Emmanuel Episcopal Church or the Huntington’s Disease Society of America https://hdsa.org/get-involved/tribute-memorial-donations/ in Sara’s name/memory.
