Sharon was born in Louisiana, but spent most of her childhood in Maryland with her parents, Lester and Mary Crosby and brothers, Tim and Mike Crosby. While living in Maryland, Sharon worked as a secretary at the Census Bureau where she made lifelong friends. She was a loving mother to her only child, Sean, and was a devoted wife, daughter, and sister. The Crosby family spent many hours together playing cards, bowling, golfing, and attending many sporting events around all of the children in their family.
Sharon moved to Hampton, Virginia where she spent the last 40 years with her husband, James “Jim” Gigeay. She enjoyed beach life, shopping for hours, watching her soaps, and talking with anyone and everyone. Her family believes that she may hold the unofficial Guiness Book of World Record for the longest, non-stop phone call at 14 hours! She was a beloved customer at many local restaurants and those in the hospitality and service industry benefited from her very generous tips, as she loved taking care of those who served others. If you met Sharon, you remember her smile, laugh and her kind, and always giving spirit.
Sharon will always be remembered as a loving mother and wife, remarkable daughter, a doting “Grammy” and a dedicated friend. A special thank you to Margaret “Margie” Brown who cared for Sharon in her final years. The family also wishes to thank the many nurses and staff at the Devonshire for their caring and compassion throughout her final days.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents (Lester and Mary), and brother (Tim). Sharon is survived by her husband Jim, son Sean (Karon), grandchildren Jonathan (Demetra) and Erin (Wes), brother Mike (Jeannette), nephews, nieces, and extended family.
There will be a private gathering of family and close friends to celebrate Sharon’s life, per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a cause near and dear to her heart.
