Obituary of Sol Aguinaldo
Sol Faenconi Aguinaldo passed away at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 after a long battle with stage 4 lung cancer at the tender age of 67. Born in Manila, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Leopoldo and Maria Mamon Faenconi. Sol dedicated 32+ years of service to the Veterans Health Administration first caring for others as a bedside Nurse and later taking positions in Quality Management, Utilization Review, Medical Care cost recovery, Clinical reviewer, case manager, patient transfer coordinator, Bed Czar, and Investigator. Her public service also had her working directly under the Director's office, Chief of staff, Business office, Nursing department , patient representative, and other national positions for the VA up and down the East Coast for many years ultimately retiring her service at Headquarters in Washington, DC in 2015. Sol was a recipient of multiple awards during her storied career at the VA including the 2001 Secretary’s Nurse award for Excellence recognizing her contributions. Sol was a dedicated supporter of the Phillippine Nurses Association of Virginia for many years serving as President 1999-2001. Sol loved to travel and had many hobbies such as shopping online and in person, jewelry making, homemade candle making, movie watching (anything with Nicolas Cage), Facebook, and Candy Crush. She also loved spoiling her grandchildren. Sol is survived by her loving husband Pedro Jr. of 41+ years; children Shannon (Lourdes), Peter, Adrian (Carlamae); siblings Rey, Rio, Luz Escobido, Voz De Paz DelaCruz, Gene Chu, and Leo; grandchildren Annalysia Sol, Nolan, Andre, and Emersyn. The visitation will be held at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA on Saturday and Sunday, January 9 and 10 at 4:00 to 7:00pm. The mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Ave, Hampton, VA 23664, on Monday, January 11 at 2:00 pm. Cremation will follow at a later date in a private ceremony at her final resting place, The Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Sol’s name.
