Sonia Maude Goldson was born on May 10, 1948 in Panamá, República de Panamá. She was the daughter of the late John Goldson and Reka Hobbs. Sonia migrated to the United States from Panamá, República de Panamá in 1957 and became a citizen of the United States in 1964. She graduated from high school in 1967. Sonia continued her education and received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from City College of New York in 1972. In 1977 Sonia began her employment with North Central Bronx Hospital as a Ward Clerk on the Labor and Delivery Unit where she diligently worked until her retirement in 2012 after 35 years of faithful service. Upon her retirement she headed south to live out the rest of her days in Hampton, Virginia.

Sonia enjoyed traveling, shopping, music, reading, book clubs and watching television, particularly court TV and sports. Though she did not have children, she was instrumental in the rearing of family members and fit well as a member of "our village."

Sonia’s love and kindness will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. The assistance she gave to family members particularly during the holidays and special occasions will be deeply missed and those precious moments will always be cherished in our hearts. When she arrives at the Golden Gates, we know she will be looking for her mom and dad, Tia Gladys, Aunt Lu, Uncle James, Deborah, Sonja, Marlon or anyone who will give her a “fitty”.

She traded her tired soul for wings like an eagle and transitioned from this world on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at her home in Hampton, Virginia.

Left to mourn is the family patriarch, Uncle Richard Goldson (Linett) of Rialto, California. Her sisters Amelia Powell de Eduardo (Guy), Xenia Goldson, Luna Ramirez, Andrea Goldson, brothers Fernando A. Goldson (Lucinda), Erasmo Goldson (Elaine), Omar Englem, niece Sonalis Eduardo de Holder (Stanley), cousins Yvette Jones (Tyrone), Onnajay Goldson (Sherri) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves to cherish her fur baby and the love of her life, Dakota Samantha.

Sonia, you are on our minds and we wish you a peaceful journey!!!!

The service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, Virginia. The family will be hosting a meeting room on ZOOM beginning at 10 am; meeting number is 96585368449 for Sonia's Homegoing. In keeping Sonia’s wishes for her loving pet, the family has requested in lieu of flowers please donate to the Dakota Care Fund. We suggest gift cards from PetSmart in care of Onnajay Goldson at 132 Baker Farm Drive, Hampton, VA 23666.

On July 21st, 2020 about 7:00 pm, I got the news that my Aunt Sonia was no longer with us, she had gone to be with the Lord.
My World change completely, I could not even breathe.
Now some days have passed; Sonia Goldson, my Sonia G, My Soñita!!
this is very hard to accept, I can’t even begin to comprehend life without you.
You gave my Mother Amelia the opportunity of a lifetime witch She passes down to Marlon, Sonalis, Ines, and Jovanna.
None of us would ever forget, it’s because of you Sonia G, the U.S. of America is a place we can also call home, we are very Thankful and forever Grateful.
My mom Amelia always carry you in her heart, she has hold-on to this memory, you used to sing a song that goes like this:
(Vámonos caminando, caminando yo me voy a ir,
vámonos caminando, caminando yo me voy a ir
Yo no camino más, yo no camino más.)
Words from Amelia: “Sonia Goldson hey girl, I love you so much, you are in good company with our Mom and Marlon they will keep you busy and show you the ropes!! I also know you’ll shine brighter than a Star, so please Shine on, Shine on. Forever in my heart your big Sister Amelia”.
Soñita!! I did exactly what you ask me to do, I have your Furr baby Dakota, I will love her as you know how much I already did, I will take good care of her, and I will remind her of you in every occasion possible, don’t you worry about that, I got your back Soñita.
I also stayed in your apartment; I could feel your presence--God is great! Thank you for spending some time with me there!
Thank you for everything you did for me, thank you for loving me and giving me the security that I needed to feel safe, thank you for opening the doors and letting me have a place to call home when others close the doors before me, thank you for raising an 18-years old Panamanian young lady and making me yours. You are my Aunt/Mom I will continue to make you proud.
May Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ have you forever in His Glory, Soñita…R.I.P.

Hola Sonia Goldson: As i always call you saying this is Xenia Goldson. I Got up this morning thinking somewhere in my head that I could call you & talk about things but you are gone. So, what I will do is hang on tight to the memories that we made together particularly as young adults in NYC. We always did the best restaurants as soon as they opened up and received good reviews. Needless to say eating was one of our signature doings. Yesterday at your wake I got chocked up & could not complete my remembrance of some of the fun things we did. This one hit me this morning, remember when we went to the club Latin Quaters & I went to the restroom saw a young woman upset & crying- I asked her what's wrong & she told me "se me perdio mi perico" a perico is a parrot. My response to her was why did you bring your bird here? I started looking for a lost bird when in reality it was her joint(marijuana) It wasn't until you told me what a perico really was that I got it. You protected me. My dear sister I will miss you but go on and rest in peace because there is absolutely nothing here. Love Xenia G

So blessed to hear the warm messages today about Sonia. Her photo on this page is absolutely beautiful. Family, you put together a really nice homegoing. I am so glad that Sonia took time in 2014 during Christmas to come to California and spend family time together. It gave us a timeframe of spending close connections on a very important time of the year. I got an opportunity during her last hospital stay to call her and chat. God bless and keep her. Love, Vel

My Dear Sonia,
You are so missed already in abundance. I know we did not have many moments together; however, as a child visiting my Tia Gladys in NY you always made our visits a sense of belonging. I pray I said that to you when we were together. However, when we took our west coast family trip to NY when Thomas and Richard graduated from JC and high school; you took the time and spent the day with us as you took us to the ferry to visit the Statue of Liberty on Staten Island. We soooo appreciated you taking time to spend with us. And then the beautiful reunion when we all met up in ATL for Jessica and Ronnie's wedding on 4-16-16; that was a beautiful weekend for the family. Although we had many family members missing bc they are with the Lord, our Tia Gladys, Uncle John, Aunt Lou, Uncle James, Grandpa, Grandma, Momsie, Gerald, and others I may have missed.

Well, cuz you have left us with many beautiful memories and we will miss your quiet demeanor and beautiful smile. But I will remember you're with the Lord because scripture tells us: "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8

much love from your southern Caly cousins, Gigi, Richard, Thomas, Angela, and our lil Elijah:-)

My favorite memory of Sonia (DACA, Departamento de Aseo y Comunidades Aledanas) when she was about four or five years: Every evening when I came home from work Grandma would put my meal on the table and Sonia would sit next to me. I would never eat all my food. As I got up, she pulled the plate and dived in. Remind you, she had already eaten her supper. Hence, the name DACA. Panamanians, you know what that means so start explaining. Uncle Rico

To Sonia Maude,
My beloved niece, Sonia Maude, daughter of my deceased Sister, Rica, my family and I were privileged and happy to have you spend a great deal of your early childhood years with us before you went to reside with your paternal grandmother, aunts, uncle and cousins, later leaving Panama to reside in Brooklyn, New York with Aunt Gladys and family. We, the Hobbs/Browne family, through me, Your Aunt Miriam Hobbs Browne, ("Mother"), rekindled our relationship upon my relocation to New York City.
On behalf of our family, I wish to express our family's deepest sadness at your passing but we are at peace knowing that you are no longer in pain. As we are experiencing "Corona" at this time of my latent years, I am unable to travel to be personally present to wish you Farewell on your Going Home service, but I know that you will be present rejoicing and smiling joyfully without pain, in the midst of your Father, Mother, Brother, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Grandparents. Most importantly, you will be graciously received by Jehovah and His angels as you are reunited with your family members who will be waiting to welcome you.
Sonia Maude, we Love You, the little girl with the gray hair, and we will continue to love and cherish our memories of you, always remembering that heart- warming smile and laughter that was especially You.

With Our Love and Deep Sadness,
We bid you farewell until we meet again in
Jehovah Kingdom.
Aunt Miriam, " Mother" and Family
