

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Catholic faith. For many years she was a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Hampton, VA. She was a member of the Langley Air Force Base Wives Club. Hobbies included bowling, sewing, and crochet. Cooking was one of her great talents and she was especially known for her Christmas cookies.
Surviving family members include her husband of over 55 years, Salvatore F. Mauro; daughters, Gigi Braxton, Marlene Mauro, and Debbie L. Mauro; grandchildren, Michael J. Braxton, Celena B. Osborne, and Charles A. Mauro; great grandchildren, Tajaun, Amera, Alyssa, and Maureen; and a host of extended family members.
Bright and uplifting attire is invited to be worn to help celebrate Sylvia’s life in a service to be held on Saturday afternoon, October 10, 2015, at 2:00, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens following the service. The family will receive friends for a time of continued remembrance at Anna’s Italian Restaurant, 2845 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666, (757) 766-1068 after entombment services are complete.
