Thomas graduated from Norview High School, class of 1968, and later graduated from Old Dominion University with a B.S. in Physical Science. Thomas worked for 30 years as a health physicist at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth.
Thomas enjoyed 60’s and classic rock music, the beach, climbing lighthouses, and was an avid coin and classic car replica model collector. Above all, the most important thing to him was his family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Elaine and his sister, Patricia Washington.
He is survived by his life partner of 20 years, Sandra Hardy; children Tabitha and Clinton Yanulavich, Kevin Csomay, Nancy Swinson, and Michael Swinson; stepchildren Christopher and Laura Hardy, Geoffrey and Sarah Hardy, Gregory and Tiffany Hardy, and Jessica and Nick Newell. He is also survived by his sister Carol Csomay and her husband Rich Pollack, and his brother John Csomay and his partner Anne, as well as his grandchildren: Hunter, Jordan, Courtney, Allison, Kayleigh, Zachariah, Victoria, Tristan, Ryan, Evan, Elizabeth, Emma, and Olivia.
Due to COVID-19, a private service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hampton at 11 AM on Thursday, February 4, 2021. The service will be made available via Facebook live at https://www.facebook.com/EmmanuelHampton/.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Thomas in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or American Cancer Society.
