

Violet Marie Burroughs, 89, entered into eternal peace on Saturday, Jan 25, 2014. She retired from Hampton City Schools; graduated magma cum laude with an Associate's Degree from Thomas Nelson Community College and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
She had a passion for helping others and spent many hours volunteering at The Salvation Army, The Boys Club, The Girls Club, The Peninsula Women's Club and several other organizations. She loved caring for those on her street and making sure each neighbor felt special.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years, Paul Burroughs.
Survivors include her daughter Paula Newbill, two granddaughters, Abbie Newbill and Carol MacVaugh and husband Jimmy, and great granddaughter, Dani MacVaugh, all of Yorktown, VA. Daughter in love, Sharon Breckons and husband, Walt; other "family", Dean Staton, Gail Newsome and the best neighbors ever, Frances and Randy Seals.
The family would also like to thank Violet's very special friends, Anne & Bill Bryan and Hilda Jones for their love they have shown Violet throughout the years.
A celebration of Violet’s Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 3, at Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at Liberty Baptist Church.
