On July 28, 1948 Carolyn married her husband, Herman (“Nick”) in Rockford. Carolyn’s desire to care for people, her family, and faith were everything. As a registered OB/GYN nurse and later in life, hospice nurse, Carolyn’s interest and care for others was the hallmark of her life. Her family will miss her love and simple, yet profound ways of expressing it.
She is survived by her children, Joan Champlin and Joan’s husband, Wes, her son Kevin Nickels and wife, Jacqueline from Florida as well as grandchildren and spouses, Clint and Jamie Champlin, Nick and Christin Champlin, Ken and Sherry Champlin, Alison and Adam Grise, Christina Liane, and Mimi and Charlie Berlin. Carolyn’s great grandchildren are: Gwyn, Kaylin, Tate, Koen, Josiah, Vitaliy, Liam, Lydia, Audrey, and Ren. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Nick; brother, Robert Fox; parents, Clarence and Ethel Fox.
Kevin and Joan’s family want to thank the staff of Hacienda Post-Acute for the compassionate care they provided Carolyn during her last year. As one of her grandchildren said, “God gained an amazing angel, a beautiful light.”
