Cecil Eugene Westwood, 87, of Hanford passed away January 30, 2016. A 42 year resident of Kings County, Cecil was born the seventh of eight children on March 11, 1928 in Lewis, Kansas. After the death of his father in 1936, his family struggled through the Great Depression and Dust Bowl, before moving to Southern California in 1942. Through hard work and perseverance, he and his family were able to build a new life in Southern California, which is where he met his future wife, Marjorie Cobbe, in 1950. Three months into their courtship, the Korean War broke out and he enlisted in the Navy as a SeaBee. They were married December 29, 1951. After his military service, Cecil and Marjorie continued to build their lives in Orange and Riverside counties before moving to Lemoore in 1974, where Cecil took a position with PG&E.
The Lemoore years were great times of family life and projects; passing on Cecil and Marge’s vast knowledge of self-sufficiency. After retiring from PG&E in 1990, Cecil and Marjorie enjoyed traveling, golfing, and square dancing. They were active members of the Hanford Square Eights for many years. They downsized to a home in Hanford with less acreage in 2000. Cecil enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, woodworking, and painting. He was a skilled do-it-yourselfer, and enjoyed helping friends and family with all kinds of projects.
He leaves loving memories to be cherished by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marjorie; children, Brian, Diane and Cheryl; sons-in-laws, Dan and Curt; and grandchildren Seth, Chelsea, Dalton and Ian.
He was predeceased by his parents, an infant son, Gary and all his brothers and sisters.
We, his family, will miss his wonderful wit, wisdom, and humor. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
