She was born in Hanford, California on January 4, 1928. Doris passed away on September 16, 2011 in Hanford, California at her home with her daughter, Lauren J. Brite-Polley at her side. She was a writer all her life. She started writing for the Hanford Sentinel when she was 13 years old and most recently worked for the Sentinel for 7 years full time. She was an accomplished writer. She had her columns published in a book which was then donated to the Carnegie Museum.
