Long time Riverdale resident, Dorothy Blanche Vines, age 84, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Dorothy was born in Swampscott, Massachusetts on March 15, 1933 to Charles Howard & Dorothy Gage Pope. At 16 years of age, Dorothy and her family, sisters Mary, Linda Mae and brother Charles Jr (Buddy) moved to Long Beach, California. This is where she met the love of her life Vernon F Vines, while he was serving in the United States Navy. They married April 15, 1951, and moved to the Vines family farm in Riverdale. During their 44 years of marriage Dorothy and Vern found a passion in antique barbwire and bell collecting. As their love and family grew, with their three daughters, Patti, Carol and Verna Lee, they had many exciting adventures fishing, camping and horseback riding.
Dorothy was a homemaker, worked at Riverdale Free Press, Receptionist at Lyle’s College of Beauty, Secretary in their own business, Nu~Vin Trucking, but most of all, she was our teacher. Nanny taught all of her children and grandchildren to do what they love and to love what they do. Whether it be gardening, raising animals or even part-icipating in sporting events, she encouraged them to always do their best. She poured all of her love into her children and grandchildren. They were her blessings, she cherished so much.
