Growing up in the Island District, he developed a strong love for animals and was actively involved in 4-H. During his time at Lemoore High School, he participated in the FFA chapter and was also involved in Tiger Buddies, a support program that pairs students with special needs with peers for friendship and support. He later attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Dairy Science.
Eddie enjoyed raising animals alongside his sons, including chickens, rabbits, pigs, goats, and cattle, and later took up beekeeping. He served multiple terms as a trustee on the Lemoore Union Elementary School District board.
He spent his career in maintenance management at food manufacturing plants, and at the time of his passing, was employed as the shop manager of a precision machining shop. Eddie’s faith was important to him, and he was a longtime member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Armona.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 25 years, Michele; their two sons, Jake and Daniel, whom he considered his greatest accomplishments; his father, Eddie Mendes, and mother, Marilyn Briggs (Dave); his brothers, Mark (Kendra) and Matthew; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Mary Estes; and his brother-in-law, Roger Estes (Liz). He is also survived by his nieces, Emily Jacquez (Gilbert), Haylie and Sarah Estes, and his nephews, Zachary and Ryder Mendes. Eddie’s loss leaves a huge void in the hearts of those who loved him.
A graveside service will be held at Grangeville Cemetery in Armona on Tuesday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will immediately follow at the Lemoore Trinity Hall located at 470 Champion Street, Lemoore.
