Emiko was born on July 29, 1921 in Hanford to Japanese immigrants Minokichi and Taye (Kurosaki) Shinagawa.
After Executive Order 9066, Emiko was interned at the Jerome Relocation Center in Arkansas where she was a kindergarten teacher for children in the camp. After her release from Jerome, Emiko returned to Hanford and, in 1946, married Nobuo Dick Kishiue of Lemoore. Together they raised three children and ran a small farm in Hanford, Lemoore and Grangeville until Dick retired in 1990. After 64 years of marriage, Dick passed away on Memorial Day in 2010.
During her years in Hanford, Emiko also worked 16 years in the local JC Penney's shipping and receiving department and was an active member of the Nisei Liberty Post 5869 of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Ladies Auxiliary and the Hanford Buddhist Church. When she wasn’t busy fulfilling those duties she could be found under the winning lights of a slot machine in Vegas or Reno, on the road driving her husband Dick to one of his many fishing adventures off the California coast, at a VFW or MIS (Military Intelligence Service) function or visiting her grandchildren in Southern California and Iowa.
Emiko was preceded in death by her husband Nobuo, parents Minokichi and Taye, and siblings Sam Shinagawa, Grace Sumioka, Dote Geisler, Sumiko Shinagawa; brothers-in-law Fred Sumioka, Kameo Toyota and Leon Geisler.
Emiko is survived by her son Dr. Richard Kishiue and fiancée Linda Egbers, daughter Lucy Kishiue; daughter Gail Holiman and husband John; grandchildren Susan Kishiue-Koval and husband Robert; Scott Isbell and wife Elizabeth; Sara Cunningham and husband Bill; Sabrina Sakaguchi; Tae Sakaguchi and husband Phil Chang; and great-grandchildren Kaz, Charlie, Claire, Chloe, Sam and Valentine; sisters-in-law Chieko (Chickie) Shinagawa, Mary Toyota and Setsu Hiraoka.
