Growing up he and his brother Danny built and flew model airplanes in the fields around Hanford where he also developed expert shooting skills. In high school he became one of the fastest runners in town and his track team went on to win at the west coast relays.
During WWII Harold served with the 1279th combat engineers battalion of the 158th infantry regiment of the U.S. Army. He was trained in both heavy equipment operation and hand-to-hand combat skills, useful in jungle environments. He served in the pacific theatre where his expert shooting skills and ability to run served him well. He returned home without injury, unlike many of his peers.
After WWII he returned to Hanford where, following a short stint in farming, he entered the construction industry as a carpenter, eventually working his way up to become a building inspector working on many of the schools built in the Fresno-Clovis area.
Harold was a member of the Hanford YMCA board and volunteered many hours helping the community and the YMCA camp at Sequoia Lake. His desire to help others continued after retirement where he frequently offered his time to help whoever was in need.
He was a devoted father and grandfather who loved spending time outdoors camping, fishing, hunting and being with his family. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; Mark and Cindy Frauenheim of San Luis Obispo, Robert and Joni Frauenheim & Scott and Mani Frauenheim of Hanford, as well as eight grandchildren; Kyli, Kelsey, Carsten, Anna, Bryn, Blake, Brooklyn and Brylie. He also leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law; Danny and Joyce Frauenheim of Del Rey, California.
