Jane was born on October 20, 1933, in Harrodsburg KY, to William Caldwell and Valma Marvelle Cocanougher, both from Kentucky. Jane was always a dedicated student and band member, and percussions instruments were her choice while attending Harrodsburg high school. In 1950 she received a music scholarship to Transylvania University, Lexington KY, where she earned her Liberal Arts (Education) degree.
In November 1953, on a blind date she met the love of her life Micheal J. Harmon and later married on September 11, 1954, in the Harrodsburg (KY) Christian Church which would last 58 years. Two sons were born to complete the little family: Michael, Jr., in 1955, and William Ernest (Ernie) in 1958. They remained in Lexington where Jane taught at Leestown Junior High and Southern Junior High and others.
In 1973 Jane and Mike, with both sons, moved to Daytona Beach, FL, to be assistant managers at River Run apartments in Daytona. Jane returned to teaching and taught at Warner Christian Academy and other public schools in the Volusia County area.
During her many years of teaching, she was actively involved in the school band. She accompanied and chaperoned trips for the band and always had her sewing kit nearby. She even accompanied her son Ernie to New York City where he participated in the Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade. Jane and Mike frequently took the boys camping and traveled through many states to see family and friends.
Jane loved to play scrabble and research family history. She always had a nurturing heart and helpful hands. She was known as the church mouse at the First Christian Church Disciples in Christ, in Daytona, where she wrote the church’s monthly newsletter. It was there that she taught creative writing for church members and guests.
