Everett and Mae Bundy. Noma peacefully passed away of natural causes on Sunday,
September 2, 2018 at the age of 97.
Noma attended school through 7th grade. She would help her mother with household
chores, feed the chickens and helped care for her younger brothers, Bill and Pete. She
married the love of her life Marshall E. Pettigrew on December 23, 1939 in Purcell,
Oklahoma. Marshall, Noma and their first son, Merrell moved to California in 1943. They
briefly lived in Hanford before settling in Armona.
Noma was devoted to her husband Marshall and loved raising her five children. She
was a second mother to many of the neighborhood children. Noma made the Pettigrew
home a favorite spot that all the kids loved. Noma was a woman of deep faith. She was
a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Armona since 1946. Noma was a
Sunday School Teacher for the beginner’s class for 31 years. She used her handmade
flannel board stories to teach the children their lessons.
Noma always wanted to be an artist. At the age of 53 she attended night school to take
art classes in drawing and painting. She especially enjoyed painting landscapes and
special family places in Oklahoma. Noma's love and skill of sewing produced beautiful
quilts, crocheted pieces and dolls that became keepsakes for her family members.
Noma never met a stranger. She was warm, friendly and caring to everyone. Her smile
and joy of living will be so missed by all who knew her.
Noma is survived by her son Merrell Pettigrew and daughter in law, Lorraine of Hanford;
daughter Betty Andrews and son in law, Jerry of Arlington, Texas; daughter Andra Thum
and son in law, Charlie of Visalia; daughter Janie Brown of Visalia, and son Melvin

One of Noma's favorite Bible verses: Isaiah 40:31
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with
wings as eagles, they shall run and not weary; and they shall walk and not faint."
