Our mother, RosaLee (Rose) Betty Scoggin of Lemoore, California, passed away February 6, 2023 at the age of 91. Mom was born on September 24, 1931 to Evelyn (Taylor) and Roy Lee Gray in Turlock, CA. After graduating from Modesto High School in 1950, she joined the Army and was eventually stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey as a secretary for the Army Language School. It was there that she met our dad, Robert Harvey Scoggin, and after being honorably discharged in 1953, they were married.
During her time as an Army wife, Mom had six children, whom she loved dearly, and became an expert homemaker and mover. After Dad retired from the Army we moved to Nebraska, where Mom would have her 7th and last child, our little brother, Jay, who was also dearly loved. Throughout the years Mom supported us in scouting, 4-H, PTA, baseball concessions and our various hunting and fishing escapades which enhanced many a family meal.
One of Mom’s proudest achievements was obtaining her certified nursing assistant certification from Butte Community College in 1982. Wherever we moved to, she knew she could find a job with her CNA license. After several more moves and life events, Mom settled in Kings County, CA, where she briefly resided first in Lemoore, then Armona, and then Hanford. She finally moved back to Lemoore, the place she called home for the last 20 some years. Mom began providing in-home care for local families, making many acquaintances and life-long friends along the way. She also joined the Lemoore United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women’s group there. Mom loved an adventure and she carried that spirit with her everywhere to many amazing places!
She is survived by her sons, Bryan David Scoggin of Scottsbluff, NE, Larry Michael Scoggin and his wife Kathy of Lancaster, PA, William (Bill) James Scoggin and his wife Adelfa of Lemoore, CA and her daughters, Bonnie Cherise Scoggin of Albuquerque, NM, Janice Elaine (Scoggin) and her husband Victor Kennah of Ft. Bridger, WY, and Patricia Diane (Scoggin) and her husband Sal Gutierrez III of Hanford, CA. Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harvey Scoggin and her youngest son, Jay Vance Scoggin.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Sean and Scott Scoggin (Bryan), Nicholas and Rashada Irvin (Bonnie), Josh, Ben and Jolene Kennah, Kim (Kennah) Dominguez and Marcus Scoggin (Janice), Drew and Marie Scoggin (Larry), Dennis and Daisy Scoggin (Bill), Christopher Constantin and Sarah Gutierrez (Patricia), and Breana and Brailee Scoggin and Adia (Scoggin) Price (Jay). She loved each and every one of you with all her heart. She is also survived by several greatgrandchildren, whom she tried her best to keep up with!
Mom’s last wishes were to be cremated and buried alongside her youngest son, Jay, at the Millburne Cemetery in Ft. Bridger, WY in a private ceremony with her family. Wish granted mom! We love and miss you so very much.
