Warnell lived in Barstow (1950-1977) for 27 years. He graduated from Barstow High School in 1968, went to Barstow Community College, and served in the National Guards Reserve. Warnell loved music; he started playing piano at very early age at a local radio station, played the bass in school, and sang in his church choir. He also enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. Sports overall were a passion of Warnell’s. His favorite professional teams were the Dodgers, Lakers, and Rams. His enthusiasm for football even led him to participate in many fantasy football leagues over the years. In addition to the fun times with friends, he really enjoyed that fantasy football was also a way to connect with family.
Warnell was raised in Bethel A.M.E. Church where his parents were chartered members, and where he met his wife, Bertha. He married his life partner of 35 years on December 26, 1971. He started working at J.C. Penny’s in the shoe department in Barstow. In 1977, he accepted a position as store manager and moved his beautiful bride and eldest daughter to Hanford where he resided for 43 years until his death. Warnell also worked many years for Walmart in the valley. He continued to be involved with church, community service, and sports.
On September 26, 2010, Warnell, also known as “Precious”, was ordained as a minister of the Gospel for Jesus while attending Lighthouse Fellowship Church where he became their Associate Pastor. He had a Pastor’s heart for married couples through mentoring and disciplining men to become the priest of their homes. He was very involved with ministering to the body of Christ and being an extension of Jesus Christ.
Warnell always stood firm upon the Word for his life choices, believed in being respectful of people and their feelings, and had a sense of humor like no other. When all is said and done, Warnell will always be remembered as a man of God with a gentle spirit who adored and loved his family, and showed his love for Jesus by sharing his wealth of wisdom and wise counseling.
Warnell, job well done, you faithful servant and child of God. Your presence will be greatly missed by all.
