CATHERINE MARIE THYNE earned her wings at 3:33PM on March 14, 2023, and officially became the angel in heaven that she had been working toward for 75 years on earth. There's no doubt that this amazing woman has already begun giving everyone in heaven a hard time. And they absolutely adore her up there. How happy God must be to have Cathy home now that she has made such an indelible impact on the lives of so many on earth. If you are among the heartbroken reading this announcement, you know exactly what I mean.
Cathy is the bedrock of her family. She married John Joseph Thyne Jr. in 1967, and together John and Cathy built an extraordinary life of love, respect, support, bread-breaking, and, most importantly, laughter for 56 years. "Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while."
If you were to have asked Cathy what she was most proud of in life, she'd tell you about her six wonderful children and their loving spouses: John (Olesya) Thyne, Tone (Kendra) Thyne, Hazel (Marshall) Hines, Katie Concetta (Nathan), T.J., and Shelly (George) Arreola. Each actively makes the world a better place as a direct result of Cathy's shining inspiration.
Cathy made tens of thousands of school lunches, crafted countless Halloween costumes, called almost everyone “Charlie Brown,” and secretly threw an egg at a neighbor's house when she found out the kid who lived there was bullying her son. She was a ray of golden sunshine for hundreds of elder-care residents as their beloved Activities Coordinator and Executive Director at Marriott's Brighton Gardens and Carteret Senior Living. Despite her true artistry for creating delicious Italian delicacies, Cathy's favorite meal was buttered elbow noodles with ketchup.
Cathy is the world's coolest grandmother to her 12 grandchildren (the Dozen Cousins): Lyle Beasley, Marlene Beasley, Benjamin Beasley, Ruth Beasley, Charlotte Beasley, Abigail Hines, Harriet Hines, Bailey Thyne, Gabe Thyne, Elliott Thyne, Darby Thyne, and Olive Arreola who will all miss her more than words can express. They will keep her in their hearts and carry on Nonni's legacy as they make their mark in this world.
Born to her adoring late parents Anthony Salvucci and Catherine (Sarno) Salvucci in 1947, Cathy learned the secret formula of growing up in a loving household by way of example. She leaves behind her remarkable siblings, Daniel Salvucci, Loretta Nimmo, Eileen Gilleo, and Thomas Salvucci. And her extended siblings Joe Gilleo, Anna Mae Saia, and Brendan O'Brien. Cathy is preceded in death by family members Joanne Salvucci, Leah Salvucci, Phillip Nimmo, Patricia Thyne, Martin Thyne, Joseph Saia, Eddie Dolan, and Joan O'Brien.
Cathy is cousin to 23 cousins, aunt to 44 nieces and nephews, neighbor to thousands, and friend to millions. Cathy also leaves behind hundreds of others that she had informally adopted over the years as her own. We are all Cathy's family. We know that when we get that extra jolt out of nowhere to push a little further, to do the right thing, to be the best we can be - it is Cathy over our shoulder.
Considering how proudly Cathy wore her Boston accent, it's altogether fitting and appropriate that she will rest in eternal comfort in her beloved Massachusetts. Viewing will be on Friday, March 24 from 4PM to 7PM at Sullivan Funeral Home (551 Washington Street, Hanover, MA.) Mass of Resurrection at 10AM on Saturday, March 25 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (392 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA.) Burial to follow at Hanover Cemetery.
