Douglas, fondly known as Doug, was born to Stanley and Rubena Cole, on August 28, 1939, in Plainville, Massachusetts. He was a talented athlete, who played in goal for his college lacrosse team, and a lifelong Boston sports fan. Following his graduation from Curry College, Doug embarked on a career in property and casualty insurance, first at Fireman’s Fund, and then with his late partner George Gianelis. Together they founded and ran several agencies in Rockland, Boston and Reading and were avid supporters of the local business community.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Janet Cole (Murphy) and their daughter Jennifer Cole and her husband Franco DiMartino of Wynnewood, PA, and four grandchildren, Jason, Dylan, Scarlett and Alex. Dear brother-in-law of Geraldine Munroe of Rockland and Joyce Flaherty and her husband Edward of Hanover. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, George and Stanley. In addition to his love of sports and business career, Doug was happiest spending time with his family. He and Janet took many wonderful cruises and overseas trips together. He was a very proud and supportive father to Jennifer and an unwavering champion of his grandchildren.
