
Mr. James F. Heffernan, 81 a lifelong resident of Rockland died at home on Friday, November 7, 2008 after a long illness. The son of the late James F. and Margaret Dwyer Heffernan, he was born in Rockland on January 16, 1927. He was raised and educated in Rockland and served in the Navy during WWII. Mr. Heffernan had been employed as a Shipwright at the former Bethlehem Steel and the former General Dynamics in Quincy. He was Past Commander and Life member at the Rockland VFW Post 1788 and served as Grand Marshall for the 2006 Veteran's Day Parade. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, history and especially spending time with family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Faith Campbell Heffernan, 3 children, Lorraine Heffernan of Marlboro NJ, James W. Heffernan and his wife Kathleen of Bridgewater and Jennifer Heffernan of Rockland, 3 grandchildren, Theresa, James and Julia all of Bridgewater and he was the brother of Harry Giblin of Weymouth, Ruth MacAulay of Marblehead and the late Barbara Unwin, John Heffernan and Margaret Beary. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9 AM in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St. in Rockland. Interment in Holy Family Cemetery. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water Street in ROCKLAND on Tuesday from 3-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trustees of Reservations- Long Hill, 572 Essex St., Beverly MA 01915 or to the Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph MA 02368.
