

John T. Monaghan of Hanson, son of the late Thomas and Violet Monaghan, died January 26th, 2022, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. A former resident of Rockland, he attended Holy Family School and later Rockland High, before earning an associates degree at Massasoit Community College.
He worked as a mental health counselor for the state of Massachusetts, a counselor at a drug and alcohol rehab facility, and lastly with autistic adults for the May Institute. A longtime member of Alcoholics Anonymous, he found comfort and camaraderie among his peers, and dedicated himself to helping others. He loved his family, playing guitar, the beach, the Red Sox, and hanging out with his friends at the donut shop.
He is survived by his sister Kathleen Monaghan of Hanson, his brother Kevin Monaghan and his wife Diane Monaghan of Abington; his two sons, Christopher Pinney and his wife Catherine Croteau-Pinney, Michael Pinney and his wife Ann-Marie Pinney; and his grandsons, Dennis, Elijah, and Johnny Pinney.
The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate John’s life on Tuesday, February 1st from 3-7pm at Sullivan’s Funeral Home, 45 E. Water St., Rockland. Masks are required. A funeral home service will be held on Wednesday at 10am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
