

Joseph F. Gomes, Jr. of Del Webb Community in Ponte Vedra, FL, passed away on February 22nd surrounded by family after a long illness at age 74. "Joe" was born in Philadelphia, PA to his parents Joseph F. Gomes, Sr. and Margaret Gomes, and grew up in Drexel Hill, PA where he played basketball for Monsignor Bonner. He graduated from St. Joseph's University and pursued graduate studies at West Chester University. Joe was the President and Owner of JFG Lift, Inc., a material handling company, for 26 years. He raised his family with his devoted wife, Maureen (Sullivan) in Cheshire, CT before moving to Ponte Vedra, FL in November of 2013. He also summered for many years with his family and friends at Wingaersheek Beach, Gloucester, MA, a place that brought him much joy and many happy memories. Joe treasured spending time with his family and "Pop-Pop" cherished his 6 grandchildren. Joe valued the friendship of his many friends he made throughout his life. He loved tennis, golf, basketball, fishing and playing cards. He was a student of history and an enthusiastic fan of all Boston sports teams. His wit, optimism and boundless love of life endeared him to all those whose life he touched. He was truly one of a kind. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Maureen Dale (Sullivan), and his 3 children Lauren McDougall and her husband Richie of Hanover, MA, Marnie Miller and her husband Wayne of Ponte Vedra, FL and Joseph F Gomes III and his wife Emily of Portland, ME. Joe is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Ryan Miller, Quinton Miller, Matthew McDougall, Daniel McDougall, Joseph F. Gomes, IV (Charlie) and Abigail Gomes. He is survived by his brother James Gomes and his wife Elizabeth, and their children, Jim Gomes, Katherine Desmond and Megan McFaul. Joe was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Jack. Visitation will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church, 12 Park Street, Topsfield, MA , on Tuesday, March 3rd from 9:00-10:30 am. Funeral Mass to follow.
