A friend to all who knew him, Paul was a dedicated family man and accountant who cared deeply about his clients, friends, and family. He was always more than willing to help those close to him whenever he could. He will be remembered for his friendliness, extremely dry sense of humor, and fun-loving spirit. He possessed an amazing memory that would often astound those around him.
Paul spent nearly his entire life in Hanover, graduating from Hanover High School before earning a BS in Accounting from Northeastern University. Paul worked his way through college with various jobs, most memorably Justin’s Hearthside and the Mill Pond Tennis Club where he met his wife. After college Paul worked for a few accounting firms before starting his own, Litchfield & Raymond CPA and subsequently Paul N. Litchfield CPA, the latter of which he ran for over 20 years. He treated all his clients with love and respect. In addition to discussing their taxes, he would often spend hours talking with them about their lives.
Paul was a passionate sailor who spent many years racing his boat, including Frostbite Racing and with the Scituate PHFR and N.E. PHRF. With him as captain, his crew would perennially win their class along with numerous trophies. He enjoyed hosting friends on the boat for a casual sail or spending a nice day on the water with his family. He loved music and would regularly attend concerts and recommended new artists. He also loved food, sports, beer, and his dog.
Paul is survived by his wife of 36 years Beverly A. (Wing) Litchfield, his son Brad Litchfield of Waltham, his daughter Kelly (Litchfield) Burden and her husband Matthew Burden and his two grandsons Jacob M. Burden and James Paul Burden all of Halifax. He is also survived by his sister Beth A. Litchfield of Kingston, brother-in-law George Keller of FL, nephew Thomas Keller of Rockland, niece Laura Drew of MO, and many cousins and in-laws. He was the brother of the late Susan Keller (Litchfield) and Leigh Litchfield.
Visiting hours will be at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Route 53 in Hanover on Tuesday from 4pm to 7pm. A burial will be held Wednesday at 11:30am at the Hanover Center Cemetery with lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Paul’s name to the Hanover VNA Community Foundation, PO Box 45, Hanover, MA, 02339 or the GIST Cancer Research Fund.
