
Richard E. Souza, 72, of Hanover, MA, formerly of Plano, Texas passed away on February 28, 2015, after a brief illness. Richard was born in Quincy, MA and grew up in Abington, MA. Richard graduated from Abington High in 1960, and was Co-Captain of the Abington High Football Team. Richard graduated from the University of Massachusetts and received a law degree from the University Tulsa. He was an attorney for the U.S. Government in Dallas, Texas. Of all of his accomplishments, Richard was most proud of his service as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Vietnam War. While serving in Vietnam he was a company commander and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for heroic actions in operations against the North Vietnamese Army. He held the rank of Captain when he left the Marine Corps to go to Tulsa University Law School to pursue his career in the Law. Richard was the beloved son of Edward and Doris Souza of Hanover, MA. Richard is survived by his brother Edward and his wife Carol of Hanover, his brother John and his wife Karen of Hanover, MA and his sister Terry Beck of Plantation, FL. Richard is also survived by many nephews and nieces and grand nephews and grand nieces, that were always special to him. All spent time with him on the holidays, and at Richard's summer camp in Orland, ME. Richard was an avid sports fan, loved fishing and spending time with his family. He had recently retired and returned to Hanover to provide care for his mother. Richard was always caring for others, he will truly be missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington St. Rte. 53, HANOVER, on Wednesday, March 4th from 4-7 PM. A funeral home service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM. Burial to follow with military honors in Hanover Center Cemetery.
