Mrs. Virginia L. “Ginni” Fresina, 86, of East Bridgewater, formerly of Abington, died in peace, finally free from the struggles of Lewy Body Dementia, Saturday, February 14, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis R. “Butch” Fresina.
Born in Hingham on January 6, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William and Lavalie (Bixby) Hoss. She was raised and educated in Rockland and later she shared many devoted years with her husband, Butchie in their home in Abington, and together they built a large and loving family, later residing at White Pines in East Bridgewater.
Virginia was devoted to her family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Known to many as “Ginni,” she was happiest surrounded by family at holidays, birthday celebrations, and Sunday gatherings.
Ginni was a graduate of Rockland High School, The School of Practical Art, and Southeastern Massachusetts University earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts where she majored in painting. She went on to become an accomplished award-winning artist, and many of her original works were displayed in galleries and museums throughout New England. She loved spending time in her happy place making art in her sun-lit art studio at 4th Floor Artists, inside the Sandpaper Factory in Rockland where she was also employed by Metalwoods Workshop for 35 years.
She served as the President of the Abington Art Association and was a member of the Colonial Road Runners for many years. Ginni took pride in the beautiful perennial flower gardens and house plants she nurtured, a skill she learned from her mother and sisters. She was an avid reader of stories with cultural and historical significance. At an early age she found cooking a way to care for others including her large family in Rockland and the Arnold Farm School program she attended. Her gourmet cooking included delicious soups, roast beef, ham, and turkey dinners, her famous potato salad and whoopie pies, enjoyed by many. She especially loved the holidays, most of all Christmas, when she decorated the windows of her home with her hand-cut paper snowflakes and gathered with her grandchildren to decorate her special gingerbread Christmas cookies.
She is survived by Lisa Furness and her husband, William of Hanson, Amy Connelly and her husband, Mark of Hanson, and Gretchen Phineas and her husband, Michael of Arlington, Texas, David Fresina and his partner, James Frasier of Hull, Steven Fresina and his wife, Jaunna of Fairhaven, and her German “daughter” Perke. She was the much-loved grandmother of Mary Beth Jones of Texas, Devan Kelley and Alexa of Texas, Andrew Fresina, Marino Fresina and Brooke of Hanson, James Furness, Will Furness and Renee, and Thomas Furness and great-grandmother of Karley, Landon and Mason Fresina and the step-grandmother of Allison Gurney, Brendon Gurney, Sarah Adesso and the late Owen Costa.
She is also survived by Eleanor and Mark Schaul of Charleston, WV, Madeline and Paul Merchant of Scituate, Pamela and Scott Currier of New Bedford, Stephen and Dianne Hoss of Scituate, Paul Hoss of Marshfield, Peter and Deb Hoss of Sudbury, sister-in-law Mary Louise Hoss of Scituate, brother-in-law John M. Fresina of Bedford, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved daughter-in-law, Linda (Darosa) Fresina, Richard W. Hoss, William Hoss and John H.J. Hoss, Diana Hoss, Patricia (Lysaght) Fresina, Marino and Mary (Foderaro) Fresina, Elizabeth Fresina, Mario Fresina, Grace McElroy, Florence Allen, Rocco Frisina, John P. Fresina, Mary Wright, and sons-in-law Brian Gurney and Kevin Moran.
The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful caring staff at Benchmark at Hanover for the activities she enjoyed and the tender care she also received from The Pat Roche Hospice Home and Beacon Hospice during the final chapter of her journey.
She will be missed by many and remembered for her independent spirit, creativity, and quiet strength.
Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 45 East Water St, Rockland, on Sunday, February 22nd from 10-12pm, with a funeral home service at 12pm. Burial will be held at a later date.
