William P. “Bill” Bodkin, 76, of Hanover, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Born in Boston on October 2, 1948, Bill was the beloved son of the late George and Albina (Stacewicz) Bodkin. He grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Don Bosco Technical High School before continuing his education at Northeastern University and the Wentworth Institute of Technology. Following graduation, he began a fulfilling career as an electrical engineer at Teradyne, where he worked until his retirement in 2013. His role took him on many business trips across Europe and Asia, and he became fluent in Japanese along the way. In his younger years, Bill also served as a volunteer with the Boston Ambulance Squad.
Bill was the devoted husband of Lillian “Lee” (Corcoran) Bodkin. Married for 46 years, the couple first settled in Weymouth before moving to Hanover to raise their family. He was a loving and proud father to Patricia (Bodkin) Martucci, John Bodkin, and Christopher Bodkin.
A passionate gardener, Bill found great joy in tending to his roses, hydrangeas, and dahlias, as well as growing vegetables in his backyard. He was thrilled when he finally got his ride-on John Deere tractor, which he used with great enthusiasm. Bill loved working with his hands—whether renovating around the house, crafting detailed birdhouses, or building something new. He also
cherished time at the beach, especially weekends at Duxbury Beach and family vacations on Cape Cod. A fond animal lover, he cared for many pets over the years, from parakeets, fish, guinea pigs, and cats to his beloved dogs, Bailey and Bella.
Above all, Bill treasured his role as “Pa” to his four grandchildren—Lilly, Luca, Abigail, and Lea. Whether giving tractor rides, playing games, hosting tea parties, or reading stories, he was never happier than when he was with them.
Even in the face of adversity, Bill met life with quiet strength. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia in 2021, he fought to maintain his independence, supported with unwavering love and care from his son John. After a brief battle with cancer, Bill passed away on his own terms, peacefully and with his wife by his side.
He is survived by his wife Lee of Hanover; daughter Patti and her husband Jeff Martucci of Bridgewater; son John Bodkin of Hanover; son Christopher Bodkin and his wife Kristina of Winthrop; his brother James Bodkin and wife Mary of Quincy; his brothers-in-law Paul Corcoran and his wife Gail of Lewes, DE; Jack Corcoran and his wife Mary of Everett, MA; and David Corcoran and his wife Glenda of San Diego, CA; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The Bodkin family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff at Benchmark at Hanover for their kindness and compassion, and to his dedicated medical team—especially Dr. Clifford Saper.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours on Thursday, May 8, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street (Rte. 53), Hanover.
