

William F. Mahn, 82 of Rockland, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather died Sunday, April 22, 2012 surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. Son of the late Carl F. Mahn and Anne E. Brouthers Mahn, he was born in Weymouth on May 12, 1929. William was raised and educated in Rockland and was a 1946 graduate of Rockland High School. He proudly served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. During his service he was one of the first crew of four that made flight history in a jet B-47 from Limestone, Me. to England in five and one-half hours. He had been employed for 37 years as a Lineman/Foreman for New England Telephone Company. He loved spending time with family and friends; he loved the beach, summers in Cape Cod, winters in Florida, camping, cooking, reading, airplanes, carpentry and was an avid Red Sox fan. Husband of the late Barbara J. Fontaine Mahn to whom he was married for 53 years until her death in April of 2011. He is survived by 5 children, Pamela A. Hosimer and her husband Gene of MD, Gayle M. Mahn and her partner Danielle Nekimken of MD, William F. Mahn II of NH, Carla F. Chisholm and her husband Kenneth of Canton and Julie A. Mahn of Charlestown. Grandfather of Erin Maddox, Andrea Kahkonen, Christiane Wood, Alexander and Josephine Mahn, Alison, Thomas and Caroline Chisholm, great grandfather of Cody and Jacob Kahkonen. He was the brother of Bettie M. Hooke of FL, the late Eleanor M. Carter and the late Gertrude I. Mahn, Colonel US Army. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water Street in ROCKLAND on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 AM in Holy Family Church, 403 Union Street in Rockland. Interment in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
