William J. Morton, 75 of Hanson, MA, passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2025, surrounded by dear friends. Born on July 19, 1949, in Portland, Maine, Bill was a dedicated library professional and beloved friend.
A graduate of the University of Maine with a Bachelor’s in Latin and a Master’s in Education, Bill worked for decades as an Assistant to the Director on the Board of Library Commissioners for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In this role, he was known for his commitment and expertise, and developed deep friendships with his colleagues.
Bill spent most of his adult life residing on Woodman Terrace in Hanson. Over the years Bill grew from being a good friend of the Beaulieu family to that of an essential member, rarely absent from any family events. He particularly cherished his dear late friend Meredith Beaulieu, sharing countless evenings overlooking Maquan Pond, exchanging stories and laughter over a cold martini.
Bill was a passionate Keno player, often found at Lindy's with fellow enthusiasts. He had a special place in his heart for his chosen family in Florida, the Lamanda’s of Lecanto, FL, and Gionna Macomber of Timmonsville, SC with whom he spent more than a few warm winters.
An avid gardener and cook, Bill was a treasured confidant to his close friends. His dry humor, intellect, and generous spirit touched many, and he is greatly missed.
While he wished not to have a funeral service, family and friends will gather to remember him on the Beaulieu dock at Maquan Pond in July.
