Obituary of Dorothy L. Roth
Dorothy L. Roth, 94, of Grabill, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Parkview Hospital, Randalia at their Supportive Care Unit. She was just five days short of her 95th birthday. Born on November 1, 1922, in Antwerp, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Frances (Clemmer) Quaintance. She was a 1940 graduate of Antwerp High School. She spent the majority of her summers growing up and later until she married, living with her older sister, Mable, and working on their farm near Harlan. During World War II, she worked at the GE Supercharger Plant in Fort Wayne, IN. She married Max Roth on December 20, 1944, while he was home on leave from the service. She also worked for a short time at Tokheim and the Grabill Post Office. Dorothy was a homemaker and bookkeeper with Roth’s Electrical Service and a member of Harlan Church of Christ for over 70 years, where she also assisted her husband in bookkeeping during his time as Church Treasurer for nearly 30 years. She is survived by her son, Thomas (Dawn) Roth of Grabill; granddaughters, Linsay (Matthew) Wellman and Jennifer (Derrick) Richardson, both of Fort Wayne; and four great-grandchildren, Lilyana and Gabrielle Wellman and Chloe and Isaiah Richardson. She is also survived by a Brother in law and Sister in law, Cy and Norma (Roth) Gustin, Brother in law, Jack Haynes, as well as nieces and nephews. She was also called “Aunt” or “Grandma” by many who loved her. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Max Roth; son, Timothy Roth; brother, Robert Quaintance; and sisters, Mable Thimlar, Lois Haynes, Clarabelle Banks, and Bertha Zuber. Funeral service will be 2:00pm, Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Harlan Church of Christ, 17108 SR 37, Harlan, with calling one hour prior. Evangelist David Atchley officiating. Calling will also be held from 3-7pm, Friday, November 3, 2017 at Hockemeyer Funeral Home, 17629 SR 37, Harlan. Burial at Harlan Memorial Cemetery, Harlan.
