LaVerne May Amstutz, 89, of Grabill, Indiana passed away on July 8, 2019. She was born October 17, 1929 in Huntertown, Indiana, the daughter of the late Crates and Velma Roy May. LaVerne was a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Ft. Wayne. LaVerne was a wonderful homemaker and farm wife. She was a loving and devoted mother and was very involved with her children’s activities including the 4-H club. In 1946, she won the title of Allen County 4H Queen. She worked as a teacher’s aide at East Allen County Schools for 27 years before retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, making memories with her grandchildren, spending time at the lake, fishing and her roses. LaVerne was very patriotic and shared her love of God and country with all who knew her. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War (DUV). LaVerne loved her extended family and was the glue that held them together for over 70 years after the death of her parents at a young age; always passing on family history and the importance of family reunions. She is survived by her children Jerry (Conny) Amstutz, Neva (Don) Ramer, Brian (Wendy McConnell) Amstutz and Keith Amstutz; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister Ramona (Glen) Houser; sister-in-law, Ruth May and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duyane Amstutz; grandson, Joshua Amstutz; daughter-in-law, Michelle Amstutz; siblings, Eileen (Don) Opliger, Charles May, and Georgia Harris. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with calling one hour prior. Visitation will take place from 2-5 pm and 6-8 pm on Thursday, July 11, 2019 with a rosary at 4:30 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN.
