

Mr. Robert Glen Campbell, known as Sam, 83, of Harmony, passed away Friday January 28, 2011 at the Gordon Hospice House following a lengthy illness. Sam was born in Iredell County on November 21, 1927 to the late Ernest and Onie Albea Campbell. He was retired from International Paper Co. of Statesville and was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church. He was formerly a volunteer fireman with the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Wiles Campbell, a daughter, Robin Campbell of Harmony and a son, Jeffery Campbell and his wife, Vickie of Huntersville. Also surviving are two grandsons, Justin and Joshua Campbell and two step grandsons, Joshua and Zachery Brock. He is also survived by a brother, Earnest "Dump" Campbell and his wife, Stella, Betty's sister of Statesville and sisters, Peggy Carter and her husband, Edsel Carter of Harmony and Carolyn Campbell and her husband, John Ray of Harmony. Sam also had many nieces and nephews and friends who loved and cared for him very much.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ophelia Gaither, brothers, Wilfred, Dwight and Woodrow Campbell. Sam will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Sam loved to fish and cook. He loved spending time with his family and friends at the beach and especially at the family place on the New River. It was so pretty and peaceful there.
The family will receive friends at the Harmony United Methodist Church today (Sunday) January 30th from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Services celebrating Sam's life will be conducted on Monday at 1:00 P.M. at the church with Rev. Shane Page officiating. He will lie in state at the church prior to the service and burial will follow in the Harmony Cemetery.
