May 13, 1939 – April 1, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles Russell Miller, 85, of Rutherford Heights, who passed away on Monday, April 1, 2025, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Lykens on May 13, 1939, Charles was the son of the late Elmer and Mae Miller. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joan Anne (Trautman) Miller, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventure.
Charles, lovingly known as Chuck or Charlie, is survived by his sons, Curt R. Miller (Tracie) of Harrisburg and Craig E. Miller (Annie) of Cypress, CA. He was a proud grandfather to Chase Miller (Samantha) of Old Hickory, TN, Rusty Miller (Amanda) of Claymont, DE, and Summer Litton (Chandler) of Mount Juliet, TN. His legacy continues through his cherished great-grandchildren: Waylon Litton, Hunter Miller, Mackenzie Litton, and Meredith Miller.
Chuck proudly served in the United States Air Force before dedicating many years to his career at TRW/Chromalloy. Even after retirement, he remained active, enjoying his time as a school bus driver for Central Dauphin School District, where he loved taking students on field trips and transporting teams to sporting events.
A passionate supporter of youth sports, Chuck was deeply involved in his community. He began as a coach at the Rutherford Youth Club before becoming a respected PIAA official for over 35 years, officiating baseball and football. He loved watching and talking about sports, always eager to share his experience and wisdom with young athletes and coaches.
One of Chuck’s greatest joys was traveling with Joan and their family, especially their many cruises together. From the Caribbean to New England, Bermuda to Alaska, their adventures created treasured memories. Some of their happiest moments were spent at sea, surrounded by loved ones, sharing laughter and stories.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Neill Funeral Home on Derry Street in Paxtang. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m.
Chuck will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, with a luncheon to follow.
His kindness, dedication, and love for his family and community will never be forgotten.
