He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Eugene and his parents Harper and Myrtle Thompson.
He was a retired Licensed Master Electrician of Harristown Development Corporation at Strawberry Square, Harrisburg, previously employed by many Electrical Contractors in PA, NY and DE, a former Postal Worker and was a US Air Force veteran.
Jerry also worked as an Electrical Inspector for Keystone Underwriters Electrical Inspection Agency and taught Electrical Shop at Cumberland/Perry Vo-Tech, Dauphin County Vo-Tech Schools for HACC and the Electrical Apprentice Program for IBEW.
He was a member of the IBEW Local #143, Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council #869, Steelton Moose Lodge, IAEI Inspectors of Central PA Chapter, St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, Lawnton American Legion Post 998, the Rutherford VFW Post 1213 and the DAV. He was Director and President of the IBEW Local #143 Credit Union and President/Commander of the Dauphin County Honor Guard. Jerry received the Blue Cap Award in 2013 for time so generously given promoting the American Legion and recognition for outstanding services.
A graduate of William Penn High School, class of 1953.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Tory Shannon (John) and Jill Thompson (Jim Nee); son, Marc Thompson; a great friend, Doris Wilson; 4 grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Conner and Sophia; and great-grandchildren, Jayden, Camryn and Jaxson.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, March 28, 2019 and 10:00 AM Friday, March 29, 2019 followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St, Harrisburg. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dauphin County Honor Guard, Lawnton American Legion Post 998, 4700 Derry St, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
