
He was born December 18, 1925 to the late W. Clare and Edna A. Smith in Plainfield, NJ, and is preceded in death by his son Kevin L. Smith, son-in-law James R. Griffey and 2 brothers, Robert E. and Merritt C. Smith.
Glenn was a 1943 graduate of John Harris High School and was a WWII veteran, having served as an aviation mechanic. He was the owner/operator of Smith Glass Service in Harrisburg from which he retired in 1990. He was a member of the former Olivet Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully for many years as an usher, deacon and player on the men's softball team. When the church closed, he became a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Rutherford where he continued to actively serve. He enjoyed camping at R B Winter State Park, woodworking and he loved the game of golf which he played until he was 83.
He is survived by the love of his life Mary Ellen Shindler Smith to whom he was married for nearly 70 years; son, Kenneth G. Smith (Christal), Harrisburg; daughters, Kathleen J. Griffey, Harrisburg; Gwen E. Brown (Richard), Sandwich, MA; Deborah K. Antenucci (Donald), Largo, FL; Karen G. Reckord (Robert), Halifax; and daughter-in-law Julie Smith Wilhite, Harrisburg. Glenn had 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
There will be a viewing and visitation on Friday evening, January 13, from 7 to 9 pm at the Neill Funeral Home, Harrisburg. A service to celebrate Glenn's life will be held Saturday, January 14 at 1 pm at the same location with Pastors Gordon Lewis and Keith Blank officiating. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to support the Youth Program at Glenn's church (Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Rutherford, 165 North 67th Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111).
