James H. “Jim”Powell,80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 2, 2014 at the home of his son James Jr. in Enola, PA., after a battle with cancer. Jim was the widow of Marianne (Doerr) Powell who passed away in April, 2013, they were married for 51 years. Born on May 3, 1933 in Pottsville, PA., a son of the late John and Jane (Noone) Powell.
Jim was a 1951 graduate of Pottsville High School after which he enlisted in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Steelton American Legion Post 420. Jim worked at Bethlehem Steel and retired after 42 years. After retiring he worked at Harrisburg International Airport for 10 years. Jim was a faithful member of St.Catherine Labourne Parish for over a half century.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren attending all activities they participated in. He was also an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching Penn State, Eagles and Phillies games on television. As a hobby, Jim would often take 5 mile long walks around the Rutherford area where he resided.
Surviving are his two sons James Jr. and wife Lynnette (Lippert) Powell of Enola,Michael Powell and wife Rachel Hamelers of Telford, and a daughter Sandra Powell of Middletown, a brother William and wife Thelma Powell of St.Clair, three grandchildren Anthony, William and Madelaine, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Private services and burial with full Military Honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
