

Richard J. Murphy Jr., 84, of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born February 24, 1933 in Pottsville, PA; he was the son of the late Richard J. and Margaret (Gallo) Murphy Sr.; and preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Lou Murphy- Stanalonis; brother, Michael M. Conway; and sister, Peg Murphy-Zuratt.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Yvonne M. (Eichenberg) Murphy; 4 daughters, Patricia Susan Murphy-Peters (Clyde), of Harrisburg, Karen Rizzuto Vaccaro (Steve), of Doylestown, Denise Murphy and Yvonne Maureen Murphy, both of Harrisburg; son, Richard James Murphy III (Lori), of Harrisburg; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard retired from Hubbell, also worked for AMP Inc, and the Neill Funeral Home, and he was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He recently served as a Swatara Twp Commissioner and a former Judge of Elections for Dauphin County.
He was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, Rutherford Lions Club, Dauphin County Honor Guard, Steelton-Swatara Lodge 775 F&AM, Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council 869, and it’s Fourth Degree. He was a life member of the Lawnton American Legion Post 998, Rutherford VFW Post 1312, and the Middletown Hunters and Anglers.
Murph was proud of his Irish heritage and was active with the Irish Heritage and the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM Friday, June 9, 2017 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg. Burial with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A viewing will be held 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Thursday, June 8, 2017 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg and 10:30 AM Friday until the time of the service at Holy Name of Jesus Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg, PA 17111 or to St. Jude’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
