It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Susan E (Bollinger Turner) Olson, who passed away suddenly on December 26, 2023 at the age of 74. Susan lived life to the fullest, surrounding herself with family, friends, food, and fun and left those who knew her with memories of each to cherish and retell.
Born to Herbert and Phyllis Bollinger in Sunbury, Pa on November 22,1949, Susan was the second of five children, and is survived by Steven Bollinger, Debra Stover, John Bollinger (Chris), and Phillip Bollinger (Liz); daughter Angela Cowitch (Len) and grandchild, Isabella. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Sadly, Susan was preceded in death by husbands Harry E Turner and Thomas E Olson.
A 1967 graduate of Central Dauphin High School, Susan worked at Laventhol & Horwath, Certified Public Accountants for many years and retired after a well-established career with the Office of the Budget- Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. And during her years working full time, her passion for cooking led to owning/operating her own catering business while her appreciation for theater/music furthered the opportunity to co-own a dinner theater.
Susan enjoyed a life of traveling with friends and family, most often via a cruise ship to a tropical destination. She took “Girls Only” weekend trips and longer family vacations to Walt Disney World often. And for the past 6 years, she found comfort taking in sunrises at Virginia Beach, a place with fond memories she held close to her heart.
Susan found joy being the hostess of parties and picnics, moving her high heels across a dance floor, playing card games for hours (especially Pinochle), and showing off her luck at the Casinos. Music was a significant part of Susan’s life and she loved songs that spanned decades. If Susan was around, music was playing. She knew it brought people together and she would make sure everyone would have a good time. Many will also remember Susan’s generosity and nurturing side.
Angela and her family have decided to remember and honor her mom’s spirit during a casual Celebration of Life Ceremony taking place at the Chambers Hill Fire Company Harrisburg, PA on March 23, 2024 from 1pm-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s honor may be made directly to her chosen charities: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Native American Rights Fund, Chambers Hill Fire Company.
